Historical Background

The Eastern St. James Community Development Fund Ltd (ESJCDF) a registered Provident Society, in a Community based Organisation, conceived and promoted by the Micro Investment Development Agency (M.I.D.A).

The Organisation began on the 14th September 1995 with a capital base of $407,000.00 contributed by the Member of Parliament Hon. Violet Neilson C.D., from her Social and Economic Support Programme (S.E.S.P.) Funds.

The Eastern St. James C.D.F. originally drew its membership from the communities of Dumfries, Somerton, Lottery and Orange. As the Organisation continued on its path of steady growth, membership was also drawn from Johns Hall, Adelphi and Lilliput. These communities operate Community Revolving Fund Groups.

The organisation seeks to inspire a savings ethos amongst community members, which will assist in the development of a strong and sustained equity base for its members.

The C.D.F. now has 108 Share Holders. The share capital of the organization now stands at $26,215.00. The members' security deposits stand at $1,678,403.17. The savings are held by the C.R.F account, which at present amounts to $800,000.00.

The Mission of the E.S.J.C.D.F. is to assist its Members in broadening their economic endeavour as well as increasing their productive capacity through savings, training and credit. The organization also act as a vehicle through which funds may be obtained from Organizations such as M.I.D.A. to provide loans for individuals or groups in the Servicing, Manufacturing and Agricultural Sector.

The Organisation is headed by a Management Committee with individuals whom have varied experiences in the private and public sector. These individuals are based within Eastern Central St. James and are committed to community development.
