Portmore - Success Stories

Client: Ms. Ann- Marie Jacobs

Location: Dyke Way , Waterford , St. Catherine

Project: Grocery Shop

Ms. Jacobs in her grocery shop in Waterford

Ms. Jacobs started her business of selling bag and box juices from her home in Waterford in 1997. However, three (3) years later the business had to be closed due to mounting costs and a reduction in clientele.

Ms. Jacobs revived the business in 2001 which experienced a slight growth. She decided to expand the business, but was unsure as to where to seek financial assistance, until a friend introduced her to the Portmore CDF. She approached the organization and received her first loan in November 2002. She was pleased with the fast process in acquiring the loan and has since received five (5) additional loans, which have all been repaid in full, and ahead of the scheduled time.

Ms. Jacobs attributes the fast growth of her business to the assistance she received from the CDF. She had contemplated renting a shop but was advised to reconsider this idea and continue from her home. She took the advice and has benefited from a fast turnover of her stock. Her establishment has blossomed from selling juices to include grocery items and other products. This has resulted in her income increasing while her expenses remained constant.
