St. Ann's Bay - Success Stories
Client : Lenford Peart
Location : Laughlands, St. Ann 's Bay
Project : Poultry - Layers

Mr. Peart and Mrs. Miller collecting eggs
Mr. Lenford Peart is a humble, persistent Jamaican who is not afraid to pursue his dreams. Mr. Peart lives and owns a small poultry farm in the quiet district of Laughlands, approximately 5 miles from St. Ann 's Bay. Initially, Mr. Peart farmed on a small scale due to limited resources. However, this changed in early 1996 when he was introduced to the St. Ann 's Bay Community Development Fund. Mr. Peart became a member of the CDF and soon after, was granted a loan to purchase additional broilers for the farm.
Two years later in 1998, Mr. Peart experienced a great setback when he lost a large quantity of meat produced on his farm. However, he saw this setback as a learning experience and decided to apply for another loan to purchase layers. Since then, he has received several loans to build new chicken coops for the additional birds purchased. Mr. Peart had to acquire his own vehicle due to the quantity of eggs that were produced at the farm each day.
However, the van purchased proved to be problematic and he had to revert to hiring vehicles to transport the eggs. Presently, Mr. Peart supplies eggs to two popular hotels in St. Ann 's Bay; and also to several shops and households in the surrounding areas. He was awarded “Client of Year” in years 2002 and 2006. He offers advice to other farmers in the poultry industry and will even source layers for them.
Mr. Peart is a model client and the St. Ann 's Bay CDF is committed to assisting him in the growth of his business.
